A specialized Museum of the Slovak National Museum with a unique profile focusing on puppet cultures and toys (on puppet theatre as special kind of dramatic art). It is the only Museum in Slovakia with such specialisation active in the field of collecting, preserving and presenting activities. It is situated in the historicalcastle of Modrý Kameň (1258) in a Renaissance-Baroque manor from the 18th century which is part of the castle complex. The historical surrounding of the castle complex with a garden and the St. Anna´s park and the nearby monuments (e.g. the Calvary from the 18th century, the protected archaeological site of the Forest-Steppe of Modrý Kameň) offer a broad range of cultural, educational, recreational and sportive activities for all categories of visitors.
The specialisation of the Museum determines the target groups of its visitors, including children, young people, families, but also senior citizens. The Museum has engaged in a long-term educational project entitled School in the Museum and systematically cooperates with the Department of Puppetry at the Academy of Performing Arts, puppet theatres, professional the atrologists, visual artists and other pedagogical, educational and social institutions. The Museum promotes and offers special educational, entertaining, sportive and creative programs taking place within its premises, expositions, permanent creative workshops, in the playroom as well as in the natural surroundings of the historical castle of Modrý Kameň.
